Vampire vs. Werewolf Blog Hop

I’m obsessed with the horror genre and have been since my grandmother took me to see Creepshow when I was very young. I’ll watch anything—slasher, cheesy b rated, zombie, vampire, witches, werewolves. You name it, and I will or have already seen it. My movie library is more than half horror.  My love of vampires started when I laid eyes on Brad Pitt’s baby blues in Interview with the Vampire. To date, he’s still one of my favorite actors to play a vampire role. To me, vampires are mysterious, hot-blooded lovers who live and love eternally.

My Progeny Series is about a family of vampires and one within their family who is different, yet the same. Ascher is a half-bloodling (half-human and half vampire). His skin possesses the warmth of a human's, yet he lives off blood and is immortal like his family. The days of the cold-blooded, garlic fearing, cross-avoiding fiends of old are slowly giving way to a new type of warrior.

The new blood is tougher, meaner, more human-like and fall deeper in love than any of their predecessors. These guys have the gentle touch of a feather but can tear an enemy apart with the same hands. They're as passionate about their clan ties as they are about the women who stir their blood. They're bold, sexy warriors with wills of steel. Their bodies are lean, sculpted immortal vessels of paranormal strength and ability. They’re devoted brothers, enemy slayers and erotic lovers capable of completely satisfying their chosen mate.

For me, creating feeling and intense vampires that are outside the typical vampire box is important. My vampires love passionately, have a strong sense of brotherhood and feel the full gamut of human emotions. I subscribe to the fact that vampires are pale and blood drinkers, and I'm a purist in believing that they are cold-skinned and burn in sunlight, but I'm not one to believe that vampires are emotionless, evil fiends who sleep in coffins and plan the demise of us warm-blooded humans.

I find it completely possible that vampires would have the emotional capacity to love as much as a human. They typically were human once and surely felt the full range of emotions during that time. So, why wouldn't that carry over into immortality?

About The Progeny Series

At its core, The Progeny is simply a story about a man and woman who fall in love, and the fact that he’s a half-blood (half-human, half vampire) and she’s a Wiccan human are secondary factors. When we meet Ascher, he’s grumpy. Frankly, who could blame him? He’s engaged to seal to Ursula—a cold and careless vampire who wants nothing more than to get her hands on a bloodstone— and he feels conflicted about his existence.

All of that changes when he meets Shawnette McCutchin. She’s beautiful, intriguing and possesses some of the most potent blood that he’s ever smelled. A war immediately begins inside Ascher. He craves Shauna’s blood just as much as he craves her body and the closer they get, the harder it is for him to control his urges. After Ascher calls off the sealing to Ursula, the trouble begins. His family’s peaceful period ends when Ursula’s army attacks the Rousseaus.

This series encompasses a family dynamic of which we’ve never seen. The Rousseaus share a common mortal and immortal bloodline, but loyalty is the thread binding this clan. Shauna and Ascher’s dissuaded love only strengthens the family bonds. Their unique union transcends bloodlines and completes the prophecy, defying the archaic beliefs of centuries old covenants while shattering the wall between the Wiccan and vampire worlds that has existed for ages. This series is erotic paranormal romance intended for adults, as it contains adult sensuality, language and themes.

Blood Promise (The Progeny Series #3)

“Their love is fated by an ancient prophecy. Now the promise is fulfilled.”

Ascher Rousseau is a half-human, half vampire whose life has been a series of prophecies and predictions. After finding incredible love and passion with Shauna—a Wiccan with powers beyond anything he’s ever known—he seals to her and hopes for happiness. But his enemies seek to destroy all that he loves, and he finds that happiness never lasts for long.

Darkness is descending and a vampiric revolution is nearing. A new brood of hatchlings is born to join their darkling brothers, in preparation for war. A preordained chain of events is set into motion that could lead to the rise of the demonic “cloaked one” and his half-human fallen children, while ending humanity—as we know it.

Can a supernatural love and the loyal bond of a family save the Rousseaus and the world from certain extinction?

  2. OMG! My movie library is just like yours! I love to watch all kinds of horror from B movies to below B movies! My husband swears nobody would watch the movies I do, I get to tell him, he is WRONG again! Impossible to choose between vamps and shifters!

    1. Thanks for commenting, Susanmp. I think our husbands may be kindred spirits. Though mine protests, he usually caves and watches the movies along with me. Creepshow scared me to death, but it was the true genesis of my love for horror. My grandmother has since passed, but it's nice to have that memory of her and to know that she influenced both a love for horror and my eventual writing career. Good luck with the giveaway. :)

    1. Hi BLHmistress,

I loved the Howling movies as an older teen, but there was just something about those vampires. They have that whole mind control thing, though as gorgeous as they seem to be these days, they don't really need it. Thanks for commenting and good luck with the giveaway.

  9. While I like the sexy Vampires, I like shifters of all kinds better. I am definitely TEAM WEREWOLF! There is just something about a sexy alpha werewolf that floats my boat! Maybe it's the whole "mate for life" thing. My favorite “Sexy Werewolf” is Smitty from Shelly Laurenston’s “The Beast In Him”. He is a real laid back kind of alpha male with a sexy southern charm and a body built by “good shifter genes” and the U. S. Navy Seals.

Some of my favorite Werewolf and Vampire books are the “Pack/Pride” series by Shelly Laurenston, the “Dragon Kin” series by G. A. Aiken, the “Freakn’” series by Eve Langlais, the” Anita Blake” series by Laurel K. Hamilton, the “Breeds” series by Lora Leigh, the “Granite Lake Wolves” by Vivian Arend, the “Dragon Knights” and “Tales of the Were” series by Bianca D’Arc and the “New Species” series by Laurann Dohner. All of these are must read and read again for me. If you haven’t tried them, you are missing out.

For Werewolf books I recommend Bianca D’Arc’s Tales of the Were series, and Shelly Laurenston’s Pack series.
Happy New Year and thanks for the chance to win. <^_^>

    1. Hi CBarton,

Loved your comment. I think you'd be safe with Ascher. He's a vamp, but he's half us so his skin is warm to the touch. :) His brothers...not so much. But I do believe that you'd have to fight Shauna, because she loves that vamp and wouldn't give him up without a fight. Thank you so much for dropping in. Good luck with the giveaway, and hope you get some relief from those stiff joints.

    1. Hi Amber,

You are so right. Though some concepts are consistent from book to book, I believe that authors have to bring something new to the pot to get their books noticed. I've always thought outside of the box, so it wasn't hard for me to create a unique take on vampires. Good luck with the giveaway, and thanks for visiting me. :)
