Heartbreaker Blog Hop

I will admit to loving bad boys. What's not to like? They're confident, exciting and sexy. My ultimate, literary bad boys are undoubtedly vampires. I love them. Tortured heros, they usually fall in love with and bind themselves to unsuspecting human mates, only to break their love's heart when their secret is revealed. Just check out this reveal scene from the THE PROGENY.

Ascher moved closer, but she squirmed away. “How old do you think that I am?”
“That’s a crazy question. You’re twenty-two. You were born December 30, 1988.”
“That’s half true. I was born on that date, but not in 1988.”
“This is crazy talk, Ascher. I’ve seen your driver’s license.”
“No it isn’t. Shauna, I’m eighty-seven years old. I was born December 30, 1923.”
Waves of nervous laughter rolled from her. “Whatever you’re smoking, leave it alone. If you’re on meds, raise your dosage, Ash. This is crazy, even for you.”
“Haven’t you wondered why I hardly eat? Why my skin is so pale? How I always seem to know exactly where you are? You still wonder why Kara’s eyes are the same as my brothers and mine.”
“Okay, you have my attention now, because I in no way believed the flimsy excuse you gave me earlier.”
“What I’m going to tell you is going to be hard to digest. You might not even believe it. I promise you, I’m telling you the absolute truth. I wouldn’t lie to you again.”

Sweet. Right? Would have been perfect if Ascher had told her the whole truth in the beginning. A simple, "Hey, I've got a crazy ass vampire fiance who will hunt you down and try to kill you," might have sufficed. This, after all, is the crux of the problems that plague the couple throughout the series. Ursula Vasille is a woman scorned, and she wants Shauna's head on a silver platter for ruining her chance at a bloodstone. Secrets have a way of coming back to bite us in the ass. In the next excerpt, Shauna suffers her first heart break and learns that the man she loves is betrothed to another. Poor girl.

Clutching her head with both hands, Shauna screamed, “No!” The windows cracked as she ran towards the door, fresh tears flooding her face.
Ascher grabbed for her—missing.
“No!” The ceiling rumbled, water raining down from the sprinklers. Shauna pointed towards the door. “Move!” At her command, it flew open, nearly ripping off its hinges.
Ascher appeared in front of her.
She scowled. “Go away!” An unseen force removed him from her path. Turning, she backed away from both of them, her eyes fixated on the two. Her finger twirled and pointed at each of them. “Stay!”
“I hope you’re happy now!” Ascher seethed at Ursula then sprinted after Shauna, catching her before she hit the stairs. He clutched her to him. “Shauna. Baby, please. Just let me explain.”
A strange burn started in her legs. What’s happening to me? She’d had rage issues all her life, never anything like this. Her clear eyesight blurred gray. The hall she’d seen for three months and knew like the back of her hand, became an unfamiliar maze veiled by her fuzzy vision.
Taking a stumbling step, she regained her balance against the wall. “I told you how important honesty was to me, and you’ve kept this from me the whole time. You told me she was nobody—that it was only physical curiosity. It doesn’t look that way to me. She talks like she owns you. You said that was over. How were you going to cover up getting married to someone else?”
“I wasn’t. Please, just listen to me—”
Shauna shook her head. “I’ve listened enough, and I can’t trust you. Without trust, we have nothing. All you’ve done is feed me lies. You’re a liar! I despise liars! I can’t believe I was going to sleep with you, allow you to be my first.” She gripped her stomach and doubled over as the nausea crept from her depths. “I’m going to be sick.”
He reached for her again.
“Don’t touch me!” Every ounce of restraint left her body, and chaos flooded her brain. She wanted to lash out. No, she needed to lash out.
“Shauna, just let me take you home. I promise I’ll explain things to you.”
“What part of I don’t want to hear your lies don’t you understand?” Pushing her hands away from her body, toward him, she barked, “Back!” He flew back and against the wall. “I don’t want to hear anymore lies!” She sobbed into her hands. “I hate you. I wish I’d never met you!”
Pain and disbelief creased his face. “Shauna? You don’t mean that. You’re just upset. Let’s talk things through.”
“There’s nothing left to say, Ascher. Just leave me alone. I never want to see you again.”
“Shauna, I love you. Please. You don’t—”
“Oh, yes I do. I mean it and I quit! I can’t work here anymore.” She ran out the emergency exit, setting off the door alarm, sprinting into the night.

Coming Soon....
Blood Promise (The Progeny Series #3)
“Their love is fated by an ancient prophecy. Now the promise is fulfilled.”

Ascher Rousseau is a half-human, half vampire whose life has been a series of prophecies and predictions. After finding incredible love and passion with Shauna—a Wiccan with powers beyond anything he’s ever known—he seals to her and hopes for happiness. But his enemies seek to destroy all that he loves, and he finds that happiness never lasts for long.

Darkness is descending and a vampiric revolution is nearing. A new brood of hatchlings is born to join their darkling brothers, in preparation for war. A preordained chain of events is set into motion that could lead to the rise of the demonic “cloaked one” and his half-human fallen children, while ending humanity—as we know it.

Can a supernatural love and the loyal bond of a family save the Rousseaus and the world from certain extinction?

  7. We all want to love a Heartbreaker. Maybe its because of his chiseled good looks, his bad boy attitude, or the mysterious nature of him. Some Heartbreakers are just that, they know what they got and how to use it to get what they want. Then there are those Heartbreakers that don’t even realize that they are doing it. The best part about a Heartbreaker is that there is always a woman that turns their world upside down until they realize it is love. I have read many Romance Novels over the years and have run into many memorable Heartbreakers and my favorites are usually the ones that don’t even know they are Heartbreakers! Some of my personal favorite Heartbreakers are :

Kade Jamenson (Werewolf) from An Alpha’s Path. Kade is a sexy werewolf that will make you burn but a mishap with a potential mate makes him not think he will find love.

Ian MacPhie (Vampire) from All I Want For Christmas is a Vampire. Ian is a heartbreaking Highland Vampire that was frozen in his immortality when he was only 15. With the help of his friend he is given a drug that helps him age to 28 so he could look like a man instead of a child after hundreds of years. He has no idea that he looks of a warrior and the lover.

Lothaire Daciano (Vampire) from Lothaire. Lothaire is definitely a heartbreaker and his cocky attitude proves it! Thinks he’s a gift to women! Its just the sucker punch from a woman he doesn’t realize is his equal that brings him down a notch.

Marius Parker from His Contrary Bride. Marius is every part the gentlemen but doesn’t realize he could also easily be the rogue!

Benjamin Gateway from To Win His Wayward Wife. Benjamin doesn’t realize that he is a heartbreaker because the one woman he loved, he lost….or did he?

Fury North (Human with Canine DNA) from Fury and Valiant North (Human with Feline DNA) from Valiant. Fury and Valiant are strong New Species and gorgeous to boot, but because they are damaged they doesn’t think they can hold onto to the women they love.

Sigimor Cameron from Highland Conqueror. Sigimor is every bit the Highland Laird and warrior but can he hold onto to the beautiful English lady?

Joshua Striker (Werewolf) from Alexandra’s Legacy. Joshua is a scared and battle hard enforcer for his pack and he thinks that he doesn’t have what it takes to make the women melt.

  53. My favorite heartbreaker? It would definitely have to be Bruce Wayne/Batman. Broken hearts on record? Talia al Ghul, Zatanna, Sliver St. Cloud, Vicki Vale, Selina Kyle, Wonder Woman, Sasha Bordeaux, Andrea Beaumont, Barbara Gordan, nameless date of the week….It’s a long list, but I was added on that list when I was around 3 so…some of those girls better just step aside since I’ve been on the list longer. I think girls like heartbreakers because they think they can be the special girl that finally gets through to the “real” him and can change him for the better. Even though I love my heartbreaker Batman. I would still pick my future husband (April 6th!) over him, because I know that my handsome nerd knows what he’s got at home and is in it for “forever after.”
