I can’t help but think about how after all of the years of waiting for the woman of my dreams—the one woman, who has claimed me, kept me sane and makes me feel…whole. These many years of only dreams, my mind’s way of showing me my one soul mate and now I have finally found her. Actually being able to hold her, have her, taste her…I, at this moment feel as if this amazing reality, so short lived, is being swept away from me and I’m not liking it one single bit. I want more than just the brief and amazing first time we had. I want to give her romance, show her what she means to me with actions as well as words.
We’ve not been alone or able to talk, get to know one another as couples should since we’ve consummated our…bond. Oh, what a night it was! It’s been one thing after another since that night at the club, that amazing meeting of souls that currently feels so long ago, yet it’s not been long at all.
We’re so fucking incredible together, in every way a couple should be. Even more than I thought possible when I thought of her as real through the years. Our bodies are so attuned to one another. It’s as if they call out and sing a song only our physical forms can hear. I know…I know. It sounds strange, corny even but it’s the only way I can think of to express the feelings and perfection that is us.
She’s tough, sexy as hell, loyal, loving and just absolute perfection in my eyes. I’d swear she was made just for me and only me! My mate, the filler that soothes the empty places within me. My woman, a woman I plan to enjoy, in every way possible. For the rest of my life.
I won’t tell her all of this yet. Not just yet.
I don’t want to take any chances of frightening her away or jumping the gun. Even though we’ve been on the same page from the first moment we touched with pretty much everything. I’d rather proceed naturally. Let it flow out, instead of over thinking it as I currently am, shit!

Stop right now Pete!

Ascher's Interview at SimpliRead

Ascher was recently interviewed by RC Bean of SimpliRead Blog. Here is the interview.

His arms filled with a large cardboard box, Ascher Rousseau strolls into the SimpliRead Readers Lounge. He hands RC Bean the box, and then slips his dark aviator sunglasses off, revealing intense, blue eyes that focus in on her. “This is for you. I read somewhere that you like Toblerone chocolate. My wife is a chocoholic.”

“Wow.” RC blushes, taking in his appearance—all sturdily-built, 6’4” of him, sexily clad in black leather pants and a gray Armani pullover. “That was really thoughtful of you. Thanks for the gift, and thank you for coming, Ascher.” She motions toward a plush leather sofa. “Please, have a seat.”

Grinning wide, he shakes her hand and settles into a comfy couch opposite his interviewer, taking a gulp of the complimentary cocktail placed on an iron and black glass table. “That really hit the spot. Thanks for the O-negative, RC,” he murmurs in a voice flavored with an enchanting French accent.

RC crosses her legs and taps on the screen of her tablet. “Thank you for agreeing to the interview.”

Ascher flashes his megawatt smile, sweeping the long, black hair from his pale face. “It’s an honor to be here. I was very excited when Ashlynne informed me that you wanted an interview for your SimpliRead blog. This is my first solo interview, so I’m a bit nervous. I usually do these with my wife, Shauna, but she’s home at Promesse, recovering from the birth of our first child. It was a difficult delivery and it has left her somewhat weakened.”

“I’m sorry to hear that she isn’t well.”

He again runs a hand through his straight raven locks, exposing several streaks of gray underneath. “No need for concern. My wife is tough. She’s on the mend and getting stronger every day. Now, let’s get to these questions. Just ask away—anything you’d like to know. Anything at all.”
What is your idea of perfect happiness?
“Wow, R.C. You just get right to the point, don’t you?” He grins, then sighs. “If I’m going to be completely honest, I don’t think I was ever really happy before I met Shauna. I mean, I existed. I did the day to day things that were expected of me. Being half human and half vampire in a home filled with full-blooded vampires was hard. I never really felt like I belonged in either world. To complicate things even more, I was engaged to seal to a vampire named Ursula, whom I didn’t love at all. I went through the motions with her because I believed she was my destiny.” He pauses in contemplation, before speaking again. “Yes, perfect happiness was only a possibility after I met my wife. She was like this illumination that lit up my dark soul and stoked this passion inside that altered my existence forever. With her, came the prospect of unconditional love. A future. Children.” His face flushes, taking on a boyish smile that conveys shyness. “Perfect happiness, for me, is an eternity spent with my wife and vampire family, Shauna and I watching our children grow and develop their gifts.”

What is your greatest fear?
Ascher’s stare cools to an icy blue.
“If you’d asked me this before the baby was born, I would’ve told you losing Shauna. Now that I’m a father, my greatest fear is, undoubtedly, losing my family. Because of this fear, I can be a bit overbearing at times. I think that drives Shauna crazy because she’s so independent and doesn’t like for me to hover. That is actually something I’m working on, attempting to balance my need to protect her with her need for independence.”

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
“I think I kinda touched on it in the previous question. I’m, admittedly, obsessive about Shauna’s safety, even though she is perfectly capable of protecting herself now. My wife is strong in her gifts, but that doesn’t stop me from worrying. I’m mighty afraid that this compulsion to protect my loved ones has only worsened since the birth.”

What is the trait you most deplore in others?
“Closed-mindedness. My father raised us to be accepting of everyone and to joy in people’s differences. Being raised to follow the covenants, I always believed that vampires and Wiccans didn’t mix. This caused me a lot of heartache when I met my Wiccan wife. I fought what I felt for her because I took the covenants’ laws very seriously. They are as close to a religion as most vampires get. I will raise my children, as I was raised, to judge others on the weight of their character.”

Which living person do you most admire?
“Growing up, I really admired my big brother Gabe. My father went into a decade-long depression after my human mother passed away after my birth. Gabe stepped in and became a pseudo parent of sorts. I’m not sure where I’d be if not for him.”

What is your greatest extravagance?
My family is extremely wealthy. I mean—come on—we’re vampires and some of us are multiple of centuries old. I, myself, am a billionaire several times over. Before Shauna, the money didn’t mean much to me. It just sat in accounts drawing interest. My wife was raised without much money, so I take every opportunity to spoil her rotten. We have a home in Saint-Tropez, a penthouse suite above one of the most popular hotels in New York, and we just built our dream home on the grounds of my family’s vineyard. For me, extravagance means the ability to give my wife anything her heart desires.”

What is your current state of mind?
“I’m a bit anxious at the moment. I’m a first-time dad who has absolutely no clue what he’s doing. Loving a child is the easy part. For me, protecting my children from the evil intent on claiming them is a whole other story. You see, my wife has this ancient demon who wants her to join him and rain havoc upon the Earth. And while I love her, she has a temper that has only gotten worse with her turning. There are times when I am afraid that she’ll choose to leave me and follow the cloaked one. I’m not sure what I’ll do if that happens.”

What do you consider to be the most overrated virtue amongst humans?
"Being half human, I’ve spent my entire life observing them to understand that part of myself. The thing that always angers me about humanity is the fickleness. They fall in and out of love so easily and most times for the wrong reasons. People take vows of forever that often are discarded when the next best thing comes along. Physical attributes change and bodies decay over time. The real person is always on the inside. And while Shauna is a gorgeous shell, she is luminous on the inside. I fell in love with that deep and caring soul.”

On what occasion do you lie?
“I endeavor to be honest in all phases of my life, but I lie every day. I pretend to be human when I’m anything but. I lied to my wife when we met, keeping the fact that I was a vampire from her. My lies are usually secrets that I keep from those I love, in the hopes of protecting them. That never ends well.”

What do you most dislike about your appearance?
“It’s funny you asking me that. As a half-blooded vampire, I go through these occurrences called hemoglobin dysplasia. During these episodes, my blood volume shifts and I’m more human than vampire. The hormonal changes usually cause my hair to grow at unprecedented rates. The few times this has happened, I usually shave and cut my hair. During Shauna’s pregnancy, I suffered a trauma that caused my system to go haywire. When it was all over, I had grown three inches, gained thirty pounds, and my hair was more than twice its original length and streaked with gray.”
Ascher shifts in his chair uncomfortably and sweeps his hands through the silky mane of black locks.
“I don’t mind the extra height and weight. When I was 6 foot 1, I was the shortest of my brothers. Now at 6 foot 4 and 213 pounds, I am of considerable size. It’s been an adjustment, learning to function in this new body, but I’m finally getting the hang of it. But this gray is a different story.”
His eyes go heavenward, bringing attention to the dark strands accented with white.
“I do not like being gray. I love looking older, but I never imagined myself ever graying. I’m immortal. Ageless appearances are part of immortality. It’s something small, I know, but it still bothers me.”

Ascher stands and stretches his arms above his head, then gives his interviewer an inquisitive stare. “If that’s all of the questions you have for me, I’ll be going. I’m pretty anxious to get back home to my family. It’s been a pleasure speaking with you today, R.C. I hope your readers enjoy the interview.” He offers her his hand for another shake before leaving.

Daddy's Little Peanut

Faleasha Myers has been creating likenesses of my characters way before the books ever saw the light of day. She's finished the eighth of our projects together and I wanted to share it with all of you. It's a depiction of a scene from the upcoming Blood Bewitched, and I call it "Daddy's Little Peanut". Here's the first look at Ascher with Baby Rousseau.

I'm ready for some football. Are you?

It's no secret that I love New England. My Progeny Series takes place there. I'm a Red Sox and Celtics fan. One day I may even move there to be closer to the region I love so much. So, it's no surprise that I am a huge New England Patriots fan. I mean come on, There is a rich sense of history with the team and there is the drool worthy Tom Brady. The hubby and I are settling in and watching our boys on the big screen. Are you a big sports fan? If so, who are your favorite teams? I'm off to cheer my boys to a hopeful victory.

Tasty Book Tours ~ Broken by Lauren Layne

Lauren Layne’s New Adult novel tells the story of a girl with secrets, a guy with scars, and a love that could save them both... or destroy them.

When Olivia Middleton abandons the glamour of Park Avenue for a remote, coastal town in Maine, everyone assumes she’s being the kind do-gooder she’s always been. But Olivia has a secret: helping an injured war veteran reenter society isn’t about charity—it’s about penance. Only, Olivia’s client isn’t the grateful elderly man she’s expecting. Instead, he’s a brooding twenty-four-year-old who has no intention of being Olivia’s path to redemption . . . and whose smoldering gaze and forbidden touch might be her undoing.

Paul Langdon doesn’t need a mirror to show him he’s no longer the hotshot quarterback he was before the war. He knows he’s ugly—inside and out. He’ll do anything to stay in self-imposed exile, even accept his father’s ultimatum that Paul tolerate the newest caretaker for three months or lose his inheritance. But Paul doesn’t count on the beautiful twenty-two-year-old who makes him long for things that he can never have. And the more she slips past his defenses, the more keeping his distance is impossible.

Now Paul and Olivia have to decide: Will they help each other heal? Or are they forever broken?

Random House:

Prince Kythar Dorn narrowed his eyes watching the lonely rider approach the castle at a slow walk. The man’s dusty travel cloak and his plain gray lizard-beast mount made him inconspicuous enough to pass unnoticed. Yet, something about his muscular shape made Kyth’s skin creep as he watched the man come around the last bend in the road onto the wide stretch leading up to the gate. He glanced at Kara standing by his side and saw her neck tense as she, too, watched the stranger approach.
It must be the weapons, Kyth decided. Two sword hilts sticking out above the shoulders suggested that the man was not only highly skilled with blades, but could use both hands equally well. A crossbow adorned the man’s saddle next to a full quiver, and his cloak, folding away at the belt, revealed an array of throwing knives impressive enough to compare to those carried by the Majat of the Royal Pentade of the king’s personal bodyguards. In fact, only the top gem ranks of the Majat carried such a set of weapons. Could it be–?
Kyth threw another glance at Kara. Her posture was tense and graceful as she watched the man approach the castle gate. Her violet eyes glowed like precious amethysts in the setting of her chocolate-brown skin that seemed even darker in contrast to her pale golden hair. She wore it short, its soft waves resting against her cheeks. On top of her beauty, she looked no less deadly than the approaching rider, her own weapons in full view.
“Do you know him?” Kyth asked quietly.
She shook her head. “I haven’t seen him before, but I’m pretty sure he’s from the Majat Guild.”
Kyth turned to look down into the front castle courtyard, where the activity told him that the rider had been spotted and his arrival expected. The Kingsguard formed a line in front of the gate and the two Diamond Majat stationed at court, Raishan and Mai, stood behind them with impassive looks.
“You must stay out of sight, Kara,” Kyth said. “If he sees you –”
She nodded.
“Let’s get out of here,” Kyth urged.
“Give me your cloak. I want to see what happens.”
Kyth took off his cloak, its black and blue colors of the Royal House Dorn adorned with a crown on the left shoulder, and wrapped it around her. The movement brought them close, so that for a moment he inhaled her barely perceptible scent of wild flowers and sensed her warmth against him. His pulse quickened as he caught her brief smile. Then she flicked the hood over her face and receded into the shadows beside the tall protrusion of the castle wall. Together they watched events unravel in the courtyard below.
The newcomer rode through the gate and dismounted in a quick, fluid move that left no doubt of his Majat training. He stepped toward the greeting party so fast that his shape blurred. Seeing him next to the two Diamonds made Kyth wonder. Could he be –
A Diamond?
Kyth held his breath, watching the three men below exchange quiet words, too distant to hear. They each looked so different. Mai’s slender build, smooth skin and soft blond curls made him appear much too young for his high post as leader of the Royal Pentade – and far too good-looking to be trustworthy. Raishan with his short brown hair and regular face looked unremarkable next to him, his high rank identifiable only by his powerful grace and the ruthless glint in his slanted gray eyes. The new Majat was of a heavier build, his black clothes far less elegant than Mai’s. He had curly hair cut closely to the scalp and black eyes so large that they seemed painted, their whites shining with a pearl glow against his dark skin.
The newcomer exchanged brief words with the two Diamonds, then took out a folded parchment and handed it to Mai. There was a pause as the Pentade leader unrolled and read the letter, then another, brief one when he lowered it and looked at the messenger with unseeing eyes. Then Mai carefully folded the parchment, put it away into a pocket inside his shirt and strode out of the yard.
“He’s in trouble,” Kara whispered. “Because of me.”

Kyth bit his lip. It had been Mai’s decision to spare her life and face the consequences. Besides, Mai was one of the best warriors in the Majat Guild who was perfectly capable of taking care of himself. But he didn’t say any of this to Kara. She had been cast out of her Guild because of her decision to protect Kyth, and he knew that no matter how casual she tried to be about it, it hurt her deeper than he could ever imagine. There was nothing he could do to make it better.
