Sweetheart Blog Hop

I have three loves in my life—my sweetheart of twelve years and hubby for ten, my son, and my writing. Thanks for dropping by my blog post for the Sweetheart Blog Hop. I’d like to start by introducing myself for those who may not know me. My name is Ashlynne Laynne and I’m an author of Erotic Interracial/Multi-Cultural Paranormal Romance. That’s a mouth full—I know—but it helps me appeal to a broader demographic.
Valentine’s Day is not only a day of love celebrated around the world, but it was also the day that my life changed forever. In my younger years, I was very unlucky in love and found myself on the receiving end of heartbreak more times than I care to remember. This left me bitter, cynical, and unbelieving that true love existed for anyone. On February 14, 2002, all of that changed when I met my husband in a Yahoo chat room—yes I met the love of my life online.

It was our fate.

I’m a huge believer in destiny and the theory that nothing happens in your life by coincidence. I find it quite poetic that the day I had grown to hate, essentially became the day that changed the way I felt about love. Meeting Mark was the beginning of a difficult road of healing. He’s stood by me and loved me unconditionally. Having him makes it so easy to write the love and passion my readers have come to expect in my Progeny Series.

The Sweetheart Blog Hop has a Rafflecopter giveaway that you can find and enter HERE.  Each sponsoring blog also has its own giveaway, in addition to the blog wide giveaway above. I encourage you to visit each participating blog for your chance to win more prizes.  As a gift for two lucky visitors, I will be giving away two e-copies of my latest release, Blood Reborn. Simply comment with your name, email address, and the name of your favorite love song of all time.

You can also find book one, The Progeny, free in digital form anywhere it is available (Amazon, BN, iTunes, etc). This is the perfect way to become acquainted with the series, and heck it’s free!

At its core, The Progeny Series is simply about a man and woman who fall in love. The fact that he’s a half-blood (half-human, half vampire) and she’s a Wiccan human are secondary factors. When we meet Ascher, he’s grumpy. Frankly, who could blame him? He’s engaged to seal to Ursula—a cold and careless vampire who wants nothing more than to get her hands on a bloodstone— and he feels conflicted about his existence.

All of that changes when he meets Shawnette McCutchin. She’s beautiful, intriguing and possesses some of the most potent blood that he’s ever smelled. A war immediately begins inside Ascher. He craves Shauna’s blood just as much as he craves her body and the closer they get, the harder it is for him to control his urges. After Ascher calls off the sealing to Ursula, the trouble begins. His family’s peaceful period ends when Ursula’s army attacks the Rousseaus.

This series encompasses a family dynamic of which we’ve never seen. The Rousseaus share a common mortal and immortal bloodline, but loyalty is the thread binding this clan. Shauna and Ascher’s dissuaded love only strengthens the family bonds. Their unique union transcends bloodlines and completes the prophecy, defying the beliefs of centuries old covenants while shattering the wall between the Wiccan and vampire worlds that has existed for ages. This series is erotic paranormal romance intended for adults, as it contains adult sensuality, language and themes.

BLOOD REBORN (The Progeny Series #4)
“Hell hath no fury like a Wiccan reborn.”
Shauna McCutchin and Ascher Rousseau share a deep and passionate bond that merges their Wiccan and vampire worlds. Destined, they’ve endured trials and suffered unimaginable pain in their quest for a happily ever after.

Endowed with amazing supernatural abilities and the added attributes of her new vampire existence, Shauna is a force to rival all others—a dangerous new breed of vampire that defies conventional wisdom.

Darkness shrouds the couple’s pasts and enemies are determined to ruin their future. Will Shauna surrender to the evil side of her nature, or will she stand by Ascher’s side as the Rousseaus prepare for the revolution?

Shauna will either be an immortal miracle or an unholy menace.

Book Description:

At thirty, Nora Kehoe is feeling pressured to settle down. On a blind date, Nora unexpectedly ends up in the emergency room where she meets Dr. John Blessing. She hopes the pragmatic Dr. Blessing can make her life complete. Then, a passionate encounter with a childhood friend changes everything.

The charismatic Jean Marc Gaspard manages the family business, Gaspard Fisheries. But rumors abound that Jean Marc is running more than seafood through the waters around Manchac Louisiana. When a family crisis sends Nora to Manchac, she is thrown headlong into the dangerous world of smugglers and swindlers. And as Jean Marc tries to protect Nora from his past, he realizes he may lose her because of it.

The dark bayou waters run deep with secrets in Louisiana, and every Cajun knows how to dance the fine line between the right and wrong side of the law. But for strangers, learning the steps to staying alive in the swamps can be tricky. Life, and love, will be dependent on how well one can master the … Acadian Waltz.

For many, the course of an entire lifetime could be summed up in a few defining moments, but moments do not choose your path. There was always an indescribable force lurking inside of us that shaped our destiny. Whether this motivation was the result of fear, longing, or in my case, guilt, it haunted our being and oversaw our every action. Like a constant voice inside our heads, this energy gave each of our lives direction.
My inner voice was hugely influenced by the city where I was born. Built at the bend in the Mississippi River and tucked behind protective levees, New Orleans nurtured a peculiar world infatuated with the Catholic rituals of sin and penance. Therefore, it should be no surprise that those of us who endured in this swamp-ridden land below the level of the sea had mastered the art of sin. In fact, we turned it into something of a tourist industry. It was the penance part that many of us had not quite gotten a handle on. But God, in his infinite wisdom, wanted to make sure that we were always reminded of our heavy feelings of culpability. That was why he created the greatest guilt-making machine of them all—the mother.
Mine was named Claire Mouton Gaspard Kehoe Schuller. My mother’s first husband, Etienne Gaspard, had been her high school sweetheart. Etienne was known for running touchdowns, shrimp boats, and little else. Their marriage ended the day my mother first laid eyes on Clayton Kehoe at the criminal court house, where she had gone, yet again, to bail her drunk husband out of jail.
Her second husband, the late Clayton Kehoe, had been a prominent attorney in the city of New Orleans. Mother’s current husband was a Jewish jewelry maker named Lou Schuller. Lou was not as influential as Kehoe had been, but infinitely more skilled with gold and diamonds, which invariably pleased my mother to no end. But my mother had always insisted that it was Clayton Kehoe who had swept her off her feet from the first moment their eyes met.
“Your father,” Mother would always say. “Had the sweetest way of talking, and he always knew how to treat a lady like a queen.”
My mother was nineteen and my father was thirty-two when they married. It was a happy marriage, with lots of parties, many friends, and eventually the arrival of me, Nora Theresa Kehoe. I was named after my mother’s favorite saint and my father’s favorite movie star.
Marriage to my father must have agreed with Claire. She enjoyed being the wife of a well-connected New Orleans attorney, and thrived on the social circuit of parties and political gatherings. Even after my father died when I was fourteen, she would still meet with her old friends from the various political groups around the city, and pound the pavement for many of my father’s former colleagues who were running for office. But that all ended when she married Lou Schuller.
At fifty-five, Lou was dumpy, chubby, bald, and had the personality of a matzo ball. But Lou had the money to keep Claire in the lifestyle to which she had made herself accustomed, even after all the insurance money my father had left ran out. In the beginning of their marriage, Lou tolerated my mother’s love for the social scene, but he soon grew tired of the endless cocktail parties and political fundraisers, and reined in Claire’s activities. Now, after fifteen years of marriage, middle-aged, and trying to cope with the passage of her youth, my mother had found a new venture in which to place all of her efforts; me. Or more to the point, my marriage to some man, preferably wealthy, in the hopes of attaining the beat all and end all of middle age—grandchildren.

Reveal of The Progeny Series Logo.

2014 is about branding for me and giving my unique series its own identity. Step one in that task is a series logo. The talented graphic artist at Cora Graphics did this beauty of a logo. It will appear inside books and on the new book covers coming later this year. The words, "No fate other than the one I choose" is a family motto for my vampire family, The Rousseaus, and it is also the brand of their tattoos.

Bewitching Book Tours ~ Spotlight on Call the Lightning by Laurie Olerich (Primani Book 2)

Call the Lightning
Book Two
Laurie Olerich

Genre: Paranormal Romance/Urban Fantasy

Publisher: Laurie Olerich

ISBN: 149276759X

Number of pages: 448
Word Count: 141,500

Cover Artist: Angela Bauer

Book Description:

Bound by blood and flame...

Mica Thomas is not having a good year. First, her Primani Sean vanishes without a trace. Second, a sadistic demon wants to use her as leverage. Third, her totally unwanted powers are making her nuts.  And then there’s Killian...his eyes hold secrets that confuse her and his every touch sends her blood racing out of control.

Killian has secrets--a lot of them. With Sean MIA, it’s up to him to keep Mica safe while her powers evolve. His protection takes a dangerous turn when she becomes a pawn in the game. Desperate to keep her alive, he drags her into his private world of ancient power and bloody altars with devastating consequences.

With their minds and bodies connected, is there room for Sean?

I was humming “Chasing Cars” in the shower when the clear curtain slid back. Sean leaned against the sink, letting his eyes drift down my soapy body. He still wore jeans, but the button was undone and they rode low on his hips. He’d already stripped off the t-shirt he wore today. I licked my lips and tried to say something sexy but nothing came out. My tongue got stuck in my mouth. Instead, I stepped back to make room. The jeans hit the floor in the blink of an eye and his hands were everywhere at once. With my back against the warm tile, I closed my eyes and let the sensations overwhelm me. He dragged his lips away from my mouth and smiled wickedly. Nonplussed, I started to ask what he was up to, but it came out as a yelp when he scooped me up and wrapped my legs around his waist. His arms cushioned me from the hard tile as he impaled me with one quick thrust.
“Oh. My. God.”
Moving against me now, he bit my earlobe and murmured, “Not quite.”
After using all of the hot water, we stumbled to the bedroom to work out the bed. Exhausted and limp, I trailed my finger through the fine black hair that formed his happy trail and said, “There is no way that you’ve never had sex before me. You’re like a porn star.”
“A porn star?” He propped himself up on his elbow and frowned.
He looked so disgruntled, I started to giggle. “Baby, wait. I meant that as a compliment! You’re just so amazing when we…uh, do it.” I blushed and shut up.
“You’re a mess. You know that? Of course it’s amazing! Hello? Supernatural beings here! Our souls are connected; we share the same saol. God Mica, when I see you my brain and my body go into hyper-drive with awareness. I feel every breath you take, every heartbeat, every emotion. When I touch you, I feel your blood flowing under your skin. I feel it under my fingertips. I have the power to draw it to the surface anywhere I want. Do you know how hot that makes me? I want to lose myself in you.” He gently traced a pale blue vein on my chest with his thumb. It pulsed in response. “I can give you pleasure because I feel what you want when your breath catches just so.”
My breath caught as he nipped my collarbone with his teeth. I felt my bones turn liquid again and knew he was right. I felt the same things when I touched him. I was turned on just standing close to him. He hummed with energy that I felt on every inch of my skin. I assumed everyone in love felt this way, but maybe he was right. Our souls were entwined as much as our bodies. Maybe this was special.

He peered up from the vicinity of my naval and asked, “Besides, what made you think I was a virgin?”

Meet Laurie:

Laurie Olerich is the author of the new Primani series. Part urban fantasy, part romance, part paranormal...Three things she can’t live without! MAe Book Tours ~ Spotlight on Whispers in the Dark by K.I. Lynn

Title: Whispers in the Dark
Author: K.I. Lynn
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: 9/15/13

A power outage leaves Mia Harmon stuck alone in the dark with no source of light except her cell phone. Frightened, she heads to a neighbor to ask for a light. Tristan, the new guy in 7D, is more than willing to help her out. A bad day turns into a night where Mia ends up getting much more than she bargained for.

“Fuck,” I groaned, staring at the sign hanging on the elevator that read “Out of Order” and almost burst into tears.
It was a crappy day that was only getting worse with each passing hour. I figured standing drenched in the rain was the icing on the cake, but no, I was wrong.
With a heavy sigh, and an even heavier bag on my shoulder and one in my hand, I took the first step in my seven-flight journey up to my floor. At about four floors, I had to take a break, so I threw my bags down on the landing and sat of the bottom step of the next floor. I closed my eyes, resting my head on my arms that were crossed on my lap.
My shoulders ached, my head ached worse, and I was soaking wet from head to toe. So exhausted, I was close to curling up on the floor and sleeping there, and would have if I wasn’t already freezing—the stairwell wasn’t temperature controlled.
“Need some help?” an unfamiliar male voice asked.
I didn’t look up—I didn’t care who it was. A minute of rest was all I needed to carry on. That, and the knowledge that a hot shower awaited me as soon as I finished the remaining three flights.
“No, I’m fine. I just need a minute.” I gave him a thumbs-up and hoped he would carry on.
“Are you sure?” he questioned again, real concern evident in his voice.
I took a deep breath and raised my head. My eyes widened as I looked at the stranger in front of me. His leather jacket was riddled with water droplets, his brown hair flattened on his head and soaked to the roots. His light green eyes drew me in like a beacon in the dark. I’d never seen him before, which was odd, because I knew almost everyone in the building. We often held parties on the rooftop garden, and I would have remembered seeing a gorgeous guy like him, even soaking wet.
Strong jaw, sharp cheek bones, and a fit physique—yeah, I would have remembered him.
“Who are you?” The words shot out, and I slapped my hand over my mouth. He let out a chuckle, exposing a perfect set of white teeth. “I mean... You must be new?”
“Yeah, I am. Tristan.” He held out his hand, and I took it.
I wanted to lick any part of him, but I’d settle on his hand for now… he was that hot.
His hand was large, warm, and rough. Add that to the sexy vibe I was getting, and images of the two of us naked popped in my head.
“Nice to meet you, Mia.”
I nodded and stared back at him unblinking, the visions still dancing in my head the more I stared into his eyes.
“Going to need that hand back.” His gaze moved down to where our hands were still connected. I didn’t even realize I hadn’t let go. Dear Lord, I wasn’t drooling, was I?
“You sure?” I smiled up at him, trying to make light of the situation and not make myself out to be some strange psycho.
He let out a deep chuckle. “For a little while, but then you can have it back.”
My whole body felt colder when I let go. I didn’t realize his presence had beaten back some of my gloom, which returned in full force.
“So, are you going to be okay if I leave?”
I rolled my eyes at him. “I’ll be fine. It’s just been a really crappy day.”
“It can’t be all bad.”
“Yeah? Why is that?”
He grinned. “You met me.” My head tilted back in laughter as he stepped up and past me. “See you around, Mia.”
“Better. I’ll be searching out that hand.”
He stopped on the stair just above me, his tongue peeking out to lick his lips. “You’re going to be trouble, aren’t you?”
I shrugged my shoulders. “That’s what my dad used to say.”
Tristan nodded. “Oh, he was right.”
After the sound of his footsteps retreated, my hand reached up to fan my face. I hadn’t been that bold in…months. Not since the night my best friend Casey and I had a little too much to drink at the martini bar down the street.
I took a deep breath and gathered my strength. The call from my shower was growing, and I still had a few flights of stairs to go. With my bags in hand, I finished the climb of doom.
The end was nigh. The bright red door with gold painted 7C was within my sight, and my heart and body sang. It was a bit off key, and more like wailing cats, but in no way reduced the euphoria of finally being home.
Until I realized my key was not in hand.
I leaned forward, whimpering as my forehead came to rest against the old wooden gate to my apartment. The bags slipped from my grip, landing on the floor.
“Oh, enough with the dramatics, Mia. It was only seven floors,” the familiar voice of my neighbor said as she walked past.
“Bad day, Lena.”
Her keys jingled as she pulled them out. “I can tell. That peroxide was left on a little too long.”
“I’m sticking my tongue out—you just can’t see it. But I bet you can see this.” I stuck my arm out and flipped her the bird.
She laughed. “Find your fucking keys, girl.” The door creaked open. “Oh, and don’t forget we’re meeting up for dinner tomorrow night.”
“Yup, now get inside. If I come out here in five minutes and you’re still standing there, I’m going to throw your bags down a flight of stairs.”
I whimpered at the thought of climbing even one more step.
“That’s what I thought.” Her door slammed shut behind her, and my eyes stared down at my feet, locating my purse. I found my keys and unlocked the door before stepping in.
