Excerpt from Betrayal-

“I have lost sight of Daire and Meara,” whispered Shiovra.
Reaching a hand up and taking hold of the horse’s bridle, Odhrán suddenly urged it to a halt.
She looked down at him in question.
Odhrán brought a finger to his lips as he looked around them, eyes narrowed on the thick milky fog churning like a wild sea all around them.
Closing her eyes, the priestess listened intently, trying to find any sounds that could betray the Fomorii’s movements. At first she was met with stifling silence, but then she heard it, a faint rustle to their left. Eyes snapping open, she turned to the sound sharply, her actions immediately catching Odhrán’s attention.
The Milidh man began to move, but he was not quick enough.
A spear cut through the fog like a dagger to land in the ground before the horse’s hooves with a loud thud.
Frightened, the steed reared up, nearly toppling Shiovra from its back. She kept her grip tight on the reins as the horse came back down on its forelegs and began to gallop off, away from their set path. Tugging hard on the reins, she tried in vain to stop the frightened animal but to no avail. Glancing over her shoulder, she saw Odhrán running after her.
He reached out for her, voice muffled as he shouted her name. Soon the fog engulfed him as well, blocking him from her sight.
“Odhrán!” she called out. “Odhrán!”

Only the sound of silence greeted her.

Born in 1982 in Cleveland, Ohio, Melissa has always been an avid lover of fantasy. In her youth she would write short stories and add artwork to them. While in high school, she decided to change her career path from graphic art to writing, though she still enjoys drawing up a random picture or two, usually of her characters. During her younger school years, she won a Young Authors Honorable Mention for a short story she had written. She has also won a few Visual Arts awards during her school years and upon graduation from High School, she was given a President’s award for Outstanding Academic Achievement. The first book she began to write seriously for publication was The Priestess. Completed in 2008, the book was separated into a trilogy and published in 2010. After undergoing heavy revisions, the trilogy was re-released beginning in 2012 and completed in 2015. Melissa still lives in Ohio with her husband, son, cat Trinity, and ferret Rope.
